I created an asymetrical 5 inch cup with flower petals on the side. The cup has a slant for the rim and the rest of the cup is smooth. I overlapped the petals and closely attached them together to create multiple organic shapes and curves.
The elements of design I used would be shapes, forms, space, and texture. I emphasized shape, form and space at the smae time by overlapping thin clay pieces to create a flower like shape. I used texture by keeping the rest of my vessel smooth. I was inspired by Allice Ballard's work because her sculptures are organic like and very related to nature. As I was making it, I thought of creating something that would hold a plant so I created a pot. I also thought pots hold flowers and plants so I attached flower like shapes to my vessel to make it more organic. I also thought that this vessel could be used for other things such as holding pencils or jewelry. I like my vessel because its simple yet pretty and has a function. This sculpture shows what I have learned so far in class such as different building techniques. I wish added more detail or other elements to my design so it wasn't too simple. |
