My sculpture has a blue pedestal with branch like features sticking out to resemble coral. The branches of the coral is covered in paper mache and it is an in the round sculpture. There are white and orange pieces of plastic that is placed at the bottom of the coral. Purple and yellow plastic sheets is placed on the branches. There are green foam pieces, buttons, and earrings placed randomly on top of the branches.
Through my sculpture I wanted to express an environmental problem: coral reef destruction. I used up cycled materials to represent the trash that is constantly being thrown into the ocean. I put random objects such as earrings and buttons to show the growing consumerism that drives the increase of trash in our oceans.
I like my sculpture because I love the ocean and coral reefs. I think i successfully created the sculpture that captures the meaning behind it which is coral reef destruction. I really enjoy the paper mache look and Im really proud that i made the sculpture look like coral using sticks and paper.
